I used to be obsessed with having (good) habits, I would even track them to make sure I kept everything in check. this actually led me to drop all of them at once.
I would make to do lists every nights to be sure I had everything written down, so I could do everything throughout the next day. This could go from stretching in the morning, to drink a lot of water, to exercise before bed, to take my vitamins in the morning, always take the stairs, etc. But the more I would fixate on them the less I was inclined to actually commit to it.
Once I stopped tracking everything and actually let myself go with the flow some of these habits came back in my life but in a very slow and natural way. like I was always made to have these, but my mind was conflicted with this idea that it was a duty, a chore.
So here is my list of naturally made habits that I would like to keep (especially when im feeling down or overwhelmed and I forget the most basic things). here is it in a morning till night order
- wake up before 9am (even on days off) — still struggle with this
- stretch my whole body
- open my windows and make my bed
- do my morning skincare routine and face lymphatic massages
- get my steps in
- less amount of time spent on phone (except for work)
- trade sodas with tea/coffe (anything less sweet or unsweetened actually) I prefer to eat my sugar than drink it
- dusting off my appartment when coming home from work
- workout (eventually if I have the time to)
- enjoy some down time before bed
- doing my nighttime skincare routine
- dry brushing before showering
- scalp massage before bed and lymphatic massage for my legs
- go to bed before 2am
Now on to the ones I want to start and maintain for as long as they are benefiting me. Some of them I’ve heard about while doom scrolling so I am not even sure about the actual benefits, but I kind of want to fuck around and find out:
- castor oil patch? I really want to know the benefits and see for myself
- morning pages – when you write a few lines (or pages) everyday, either about how you feel, what you want to do today or even about the dream you had. honestly you are the one with the pen so it can be anything.
- learn how to be consistent with taking medication
- 30min reading time
- oil pulling for teeth
- no phone for 30min when I wake up and 30min before I go to sleep
- call my relatives and friends as a weekly habit
I thought about it for a few times now before actually posting this article and I think this is it. I don’t have anything else to add. If I have, I’ll just update it 😉 Writing this made me think about all the (bad?) habits I let down and also the ones I want to get rid of…
I hope you get to create your own flow with your habits and that you will carry them into this new season and onto the next one, over and over.
